In general
The folk colleges represent an alternative in Scandinavian educational system, with a special and valued educational freedom. But no exams or grades does not mean a free time year. Actually our prophecy and experience is that it will be one of the most intense years you will ever have. Besides the subjects we will try to ask you some fundamental questions about the answers you are searching for. Compared to the school you know, we, however, do not grade you in any way.
But we don’t live in a vacuum her at Sund. The world has turned more complex than ever, and also Norway has an important international responsibility. If you are supposed to understand and function in the world we live in, it is as important to understand that the complex ethnical situation of countries and cultures evidently will lead to society changes. Democratic societies will have to reconsider the old thought of cultural and religious identity in a people within country boundaries. Your generation must develop knowledge, attitude and competence to make modern multi-ethnical societies function.
If democracy needs democrats, where and how do we teach individuals to become democratic citizens? Here at Sund we are a living example of a complex multi-cultural miniature society, with norms not attached to any fixed ideology or religion. Therefore we give priority to a number of foreign students, offering a unique opportunity to learn more about the diversified world we live in. Our goal goes beyond the experience itself, but also aims towards transferring experience, to involvement, to action for a better world. Therefore Sund is “a school for life - oriented to the world”. Therefore you are so special to us!
